5 Kitchen Must-Haves
Does this happen to you? You go out to the store and get all of the needed items start making the recipe and realize you don’t have what you need. It might not be the butter or the basil but it’s a gadget or item you don’t think of often.
The challenge to these gadgets are you don’t always use them but when you need them, you need them.

Kitchen shears are so important for quick cuts to kitchen twine to trimming a chuck roast. These Wustof Ikon Shears are a great option. They come apart for cleaning; can be use by lefties or righties; and, are dishwasher safe! They also feature a built in bottle opener.
This kitchen twine holder is great. You can purchase twine on its own or on a wooden spindle. But I’ve found that the twine gets dirty super easily when its out in the open. Whether its splashes of broth or from your hands, the twine always gets something on it. With this set up, the twine won’t roll away and it’ll stay clean. One Amazon reviewer recommended keeping a small set of scissors velcroed to the container (not a bad idea!).
After dinner, it’s always nice to have a hot beverage like tea or coffee. I don’t about you but since having my daughter, caffeine has become both friend and foe. In the mornings, it’s absolutely essential. And I love having a leisurely cup after dinner. But it doesn’t love me anymore…at least at night time. Decaffeinated coffee is a nice touch, whether it’s for you or Aunt Agnus. This Starbucks decaffeinated coffee still has a full-bodied taste and will still let you sleep at night. I just ordered some with my Christmas shopping. (It does say exclusive to Prime members. You can Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial through this link.)
You may need to blanch some green beans or an iced coffee, but some ready made cubes make it easier. It’s something you can’t make on the fly so check your refrigerator’s ice maker or grab a bag from the store while you’re shopping.
Red wine, salad dressing, spaghetti sauce are only a few of stain-makers that strike fear into the heart of every launderer. Add a toddlers or a few glasses of wine (do not combine the two) and things will spill. If you have a major mess, it would be better to use OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover. This cleaner has a 5-star rating on Amazon and is well-reviewed by many other home-making sites. The only trouble is, it requires soaking for several hours so for minor stains and/or the a guest would like to wear their shirt home try the Shout Advanced Gel.
Frozen Shrimp (trust me, keep reading)
This may not be your typical ‘gadget’ but it could help you in a big pinch. You may forget to thaw the turkey in the refrigerator for a few days and it’s still frozen (trying submerging it in water for a few hours) or the pan drippings set your roast on fire. Or the dog might have done a run-by, snatching your Christmas goose off the table. THINGS HAPPEN. Having a lb or two in the freezer of shrimp or even chicken strips allow you to whip up a quick meal in 10 minutes. Cook the shrimp, boil some delicate linguini, toss together with a little olive oil, lemon, white wine, and parsley. Presto! Elegant meal in minutes! The secret to this working is something different (unless you have shrimp every day), a good delicate pasta (not good ol’ reliable spaghetti), and the grace that you’ll exude in the face of a kitchen crisis.
